Working together with HCSA Community Services. It's an organisation that supports single parent. An empty plot of land is located at the front of the organization's office. They wanted to transform that plain space into a play area for the kids coming to the organization's office

Before designing the play area, our course head organised a mini festival for us to propose some games and activities for the kids. From there it will be easy for us to know what the children would want to see in the upcoming play area

Snake& Ladder, 3D space building, and drawings were the activities we proposed. We believe that these activities will help us know what children likes and what kind of imaginative ideas they have in mind. Snake and Ladder showed that the children like to be competitive with each other and they also like to run and jump around. 3D space building will require the children to use the 3D characters that are provided to them to create a world they would like to owe to themselves. Lastly, the drawing idea is similar to the building space but in the form of drawings

Once the Festival was over it was time for us to come up with ideas to show what the children wanted and based on their behaviour we understood that the children that visited us were adventurous, did not want to have rules in their games and liked to make noises. From there we started to do some concepts

Other members also propose their ideas. My idea was a pin art board to use the poles to create 3D images and a musical wall of drums and xylophone to make noise and music. It relates to the children's liking. My ideas received good reviews from my team members and lecturers. My team members' ideas were implemented as well. In conclusion, we decided to have a free playland

These include a volcano area, river, land and sand. Lotus Leaves equipped with springs since the children like to jump around. Platforms installed for walking or jumping purposes. Musical walls are installed along the platforms. Our main priority was to have no rules in the game and must be free play. It will be a great platform for children to make new friends and enjoy spending time together

Once everything was approved by our lecturers, we proceed to make the prototype.

Xylophone Small Scale Drum

Bosu ball for jumping purpose Small scale Pin Art Board

Lotus Leaves with springs Seats

Platforms for the kids to step on

The tires were also implemented as seats for the parents to sit on while watching their children

A small scale of 1:20 was shown as well. Cardboard were the mostly used material in the process

During the Final presentation, we issued some leaflets for the clients to see and the clients were impressed by the leaflets since it looked like a treasure map. We received positive reviews from the clients and they also feedback to us as they felt that free play is a good approach and children would never deny it

On the day of the results, we received the greatest number of votes from the clients and parents. However, our concept might be a bit too expensive to implement. Furthermore, our elements like the musical walls, and pin art board can be brought over to other teams to merge with their ideas.

It was worth it 3 months of hard work from our group. Stayed back in school to finish our prototype making, designing the posters, and testing it out. Would thank my friends and lecturer who were there till the end and have worked hard for it. It was a good platform for us to understand someone's strengths and designing something for a particular group of people will give a sense of satisfaction
